What to grow after potatoes?

I've got loads of first earlier out of containers.Is there anything I could grow afterwards?

Courgettes - i grew a variety called Zucchini F1. They are pretty fast growing so if you sowed them soon you have plenty of time to get a good crop before the frosts come

I usually put in French beans or lettuce.

In theory, yes. But in many areas later plantings are likely to be struck down by blight before they ever produce anything.

Most years I've planted leeks - forgot to sow them in time this year though (well, first sowing failed to germinate then forgot)

Agreed. This time of year courgettes will grow so fast, and are similar sized plants to potatoes while being of a completely different family so there are the crop rotation type benefits.

I'm not growing potatoes this year, but have done in previous years and had courgette plants ready to replace the potatoes. It worked well.

Yes my attempt at this was pretty much a total scratch

My potato buckets are usually used for calabrese, brokali, broccoli, turnips, swedes, french beans, late peas, tomatoes, courgettes, chinese celery, winter spinach, spring cabbage and corn salad. Still time for lettuce, radish, small varieties of carrot, baby beetroot, pak choi, oriental greens and probably quite a lot else.

And you could follow those with spring cabbage of curly kale, both work well if you revitalise the compost.
