  • Old looking potato among the new

    Can somebody help me, please!

I have just emptied my first bucket of Nicola potatoes and have found an old looking potato. (The potato on the right)

Is this the original tuber sown? I have not come across this before with other varieties, most peculiar....

Yes I think most likely, the original growing tuber doesn't always shrivel or rot by the time you pick first or second earlies.

    Nice harvest

Thanks for that!! I was very chuffed to get 700g from 1 tuber.

Next question - do I eat it, plant it again or save it?

It won't make nice eating (texture and taste changes once tubers start to grow) It might given time send out another sprout, but most likely the tuber is exhausted after doing it's job and you would do best by disposing of it. Seed potatoes need replacing with fresh at the start of each new growing year. Enjoy your harvest, Nicola are a lovely tasting potato.

They do look good Chrissy, you ought to clean up 3 of them and take a photo ready for when we open up the Vine virtual veg show.
