Try some French beans as well, they don't need pollination and, seem to me to be less temperamental about the weather.

Runner bean flowers all falling off

I agree VC, French beans are much nicer but I still grow a small wigwam of runners for the variety. Mine are only just starting to produce now, much later than normal
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

But all my flowers are healthy but not podding. I can accept logic etc but not when it goes against natural laws. I have netted around the plant just incase it is sparrows but this year for me has been the worse so far. I am beginning to resign myself to the fact that there are now so many pests working against me (with sparrows added this year) it's hardly worth bothering with anything.
