Does anyone know what these are...



They look like green tomatoes and are growing on my Maris piper potatoes...

I've never seen them before.

They're seed pods from the flowers. Don't be tempted to eat them as they are poisonous.
Some people here grow the seeds (True potato seed) and grow spuds from them.

They are most suitable for hot countries where seed potatoes would shrivel before growing. Also the cost of shipping of seed potatoes would far outweigh the cost of sending seed.

I believe that each plant is a new cultivar so plant breeders would grow lots, but only keep a small percentage that performed well & suited their needs, eventually to be marketed as new varieties.

A single seasons growth in this country will only give small tubers. It wouldn't be until the second year when you planted these small tubers that you would be able to assess whether the plant was worthy of keeping.
I also think that plants grown from seed are virus free?
