That my new garden is much windier, weedier and wildlife-ier than my old garden - and that it does make a difference!

I've learned that even if you get on top of slugs the mice and rabbits will do their best to see off your beans and peas......

That starting toms off early in modules then potting them on, that keeping them in the pots and bringing them in at night till there's absolutely no chance of a cold night is the way to go. I've never potted on before. It's been a great success.

That old carrot seed isn't worth bothering with.

That just because it's warm in mid-March here doesn't mean it's a good time to plant my potatoes.

That sowing my broad beans and peas in February gives a much better result here than overwintering them.

Ditto the garlic. Which I've just started picking. The small ones are bigger than last year's and even in the shops I've never seem them as big as the largest ones.

That if I want French beans, I really have to sow them.

I've learned how to play snail cricket. Also how to build an ark.

Seriously, I've learned that today's b*ggered plant could be flourishing tomorrow. And not to take cold, wind, caterpillars, pigeons and gastropods personally.

And that gardeners are incredibly generous with each other. A special breed.

                NEVER use fibre pot!
First time I've tried them, and only because I got them free. Never again, dreadful things, hate them!!!

This may be a stupid question... but whats a "Comfrey Pipe"?

^^^ you take comfrey leaves and stuff them in to a drainage pipe - then put a weight on top - something like a pop bottle full of sand - at the bottom you collect the residue - full of nutrient for plants that you add to your watering can - use it at about 'weak tea' colouration.

Cadalot's pipe is a bit better looking than mine but its what you do with it that counts
