My Parsnips this year aren't very good at all. I've grew them for four years and this is the first year they have been rubbish. Is it possible that the soil is too rich as i hoyed a load of homemade compost on in the spring.

Out of my original sowing I got 1 parsnip growing.
Sowed some more a couple of weeks ago from an old packet into the SFG bed which had a bin full of home made compost and a couple of buckets of manure added and I have another dozen new little plants. OK a late sowing and rich soil may give me small forked roots but that's better than none.

Any photos? Do they look healthy or are there signs of pests or disease?
From the old/seed new seed I think everyone was looking along the lines of poor germination.
