Leeks

Does anyone else do this, using loo roll or kitchen roll cardboard tubes to blanch the stems, or am I wasting my time lol

My leeks never seem to get very thick so don't get as far as blanching them.

One year the soil was so dry that I couldn't dib any holes, the soil just get falling back into them, so I just planted the leeks and put cardboard tubes around them instead. That worked ok but I reckon that it's less faff if you can dib them into deep holes, now I just wait for a drop of rain.

I tend to rake out a trough then dibber the planting holes in the bottom. By the time the leeks have grown the holes and trough have worked in level encouraging a nice long blanch.

First time I've had decent sized leeks myself, I did dib them in to start, but the holes soon filled in, so I thought this might work, not enough loo rolls to do them all though lol!!(I think that borders on too much information).
