Strange marks on salad leaf

I bought some of Lidl's living salad a few weeks ago and potted on into multipurpose compost. Interesting oriental type leaf which is why I went for them. However (surprise surprise with my track record for disease) I am seeing strange white speckles on the underside of the leaves. Very difficult to rub off with finger, only fingernail will remove most of it.

Anyone know what this is ?

The plant looks like either pak choi or komatsuna, both of which are brassicas. I would guess from the small holes that it is flea beetle damage. I get a lot of it on my mizuna and pak choi - they are very hard to get rid of as they are small enough to get through most netting.

It's def not flea beetle, no holes as such. Just white patches like a disease.

It might not be flea beetle but it looks like insect damage rather than disease.

I agree with Penellype and roitelet. It looks to me like the damage done by tiny insects that essentially suck the green layer off small patches of plant. If you scrape these areas with your nail, you're probably spreading some of the green layer from elsewhere on the leaf and covering the damaged area with it, thereby making it look as if there is no longer any damage.

I've seen similar damage on some of my plants. I'm pretty sure it's not a disease as it doesn't spread in the way you'd expect if it were.

It's def not insect damage, it's more like a fungus. There are no holes and only affects one side of leaf.

Some of my komatsuna have big chunks out of the leaves, some have holes, older leaves have gone yellow and dropped off, it all seems quite normal to me
Do as I do - pick the leaves off and stop worrying about it!

I think on closer inspection that it is insect damage as all my Pak Choi have been ruined. Absolutley fed up with the ever increasing pests in such a small garden.

Looks like you need to have a very thorough search for slugs and snails. Try and get hold of some coffee grounds they do work as a slug deterrent if you don't want to use slug bait. There is nothing that beats physical removal. Do it at night after you have investigated all their possible hiding places.

My daughter has a huge problem with them but after being very vigilant last year the problem is less this year. Pyrenees Plot ( she hasn't posted for a while) did it and also had less of a problem.

I thought a garden full of frogs would sort the problem. Also, sparrows have been g*ts this year. Unbelievable damage to a lot of my crops and flowers.
