I do think this year has been weird for tomatoes, not just cold but lack of sunshine.

What direction does your garden face? This year my tomatoes are late but my daughter (York) has had a reasonable crop (from my plants) early but her garden faces due south and is a sun trap.

My usual comment when I get "mealy" tomatoes is that they've gone overripe but I can't say I've ever had that with Tumbler.

The only tomatoes I've recently grown from bought-in plants was Crimson Crush a couple of years ago could that be part of the issue?

However, too much water can also dilute the taste.

      Update:

After few weeks, the texture is much better.
Also I am amost sure that the weather is main factor here. The tomatoes now reflect the weather we had (wet cold August and even more wet and more cold September) perfectly (they are watery, not sweet).
But I still like the tumbling bella. They are quite aromatic and have pleasant acidity, even though they are not sweet, they have nice taste. There is no significant difference between plants in hanging basket (NW garden, afternoon sun) and plant in our back garden (SE facing, full sun).
Unfortunately the tumbler is tasteless, watery and boring. Not better than supermarket cherry toms (but still better than cheap supermarket salad toms).
I like scientific approach to my gardening, so I weight and log every single tomato from every plant.

Tennis ball sized? Seriously? I've never even had one get to the size of a ping pong ball!

I used to weigh the crop from each plant the plan being to grow the largest crop/nicest tasting varieties. However, I found that the crop from an individual plant of the same variety would be very different from plant to plant and season to season so now I just weigh the whole crop (32kg from 28 plants so far this year).

Lizzarno is a horrible tomato, texture much more like a cooking tomato than an eating one so nothing you could have done there.

If you are happy to try a cordon tomato next year why don't you try Sungold. Some people find it a bit sweet but you can choose how ripe you want to pick it. It should never be floury but might crack if watering is a bit erratic.
