  • Wow

I have just been watching countryfile weather for the week regarding the oncoming heatwave, it seems we will get 15-17deg and that will be the temp of the constant rain that will finish off our non summer, the darkest, coldest, wettest summer I have ever seen, summer clothes are now being put away unused as all summer has needed a willy jumper on to stay comfortably warm, if it is like this next year I will call it a day as the melon plants are dying in the cold, in August for the third year running, with no visible fruits showing, and these were sown in march /April, but the victoria plums bucked the trend and produced masses of sweet fruit, so they don't need sunlight to produce....

I feel for you Buffs (an anyone else living in Scotland) - while the south of the UK has had a decent summer (although somewhat less so in the last few weeks), Scotland has been consistently grim. The jet stream just never got far enough north to take the lows out of the way, and the west coast always gets the brunt of it I'm afraid.

I won't tell you what the models are showing for autumn and winter (they can't be relied upon anyway, its mostly guesswork at this stage).

Move to west Cumbria. People think it rains a lot here but we've had a cracking summer with bumper crops of most things. Only beans/peas have been a disappointment so far.

We have had a great summer in Cheshire. Plenty of sun, and I have a tan to prove it! but I am now sick of this constant, horrible, humid sickly heat that just hangs day after day with no rain. We can't shut the back door in this humidity and the sun coming through cloud is suffercating. I long for fresher autumnal days. Never a fan of the end of summer, much prefer Autumn.

We tell when summer has arrived as the rain gets warmer, relatively, of course, it is pouring down now, jumper on (not making that mistake again ), heating on, and not very warm in the greenhouse, all the melon plants are to be composted, when the rain stops,

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Feel so sorry for you Buffs. Soul distroying.
No complaints here. I feel we had a fairly good summer, it just went too quickly.
Very humid here, temps went to 22deg today and that with only a show of sun marginally.

Birmingham has a blinding start to the year but been pretty overcast since June with one or two good days. This is the first week I've thought about doing any watering for two months. Most of the veggies seem ok though, except the corgettes slowed down (no bad thing) and tomatoes took ages to get going.

Watering, I used to do that when I lived near Birmingham, in Stourbridge, but not much call for it around here, the last time I used the hosepipe I had to scrape all the dust off, it looked like a museum relic and was like a curly wurly it was so long since it was last needed, it's still raining I think, the river will be well up in the morning, usually from 3-5 ft, when the rain stops I can lift the onions, if they haven't rotted away..
