Sunny East Coast of Scotland has been quite nice this summer, me and my two wee grandsons were in the sea with a shrimp net last Saturday shrimping.

Weird, Solway, I would have categorised this summer in NW Cumbria as rubbish! We had some good spots, but then long weeks of not enough sun and very low temperatures.

I've had reasonable crops of most things, but none of my tomatoes are going to ripen now and it's doubtful I'll get any sweetcorn. Oddly, peas and beans have performed perhaps the best... potatoes were average, and leeks and parsnips a real disappointment.

Just goes to show how much of a microclimate we get up here! ;-)

In a "normal" summer I have to water twice a day. This year once every two days at the most. The water melons were good with stacks of fruit but after the size of tennis balls just stayed at that size.
Potato's were by far the best we have ever had but this could be down to the new potato compost.
Have loads of green toms of a good size from the cuttings so looks like loads of chutney to be made.
Still next year will be better.
        Bob.
