I'm planning to try sweet potato next year. Going to try to start growing my own slips, internet says its very easy to do, so when I prove the internet wrong I'll probably buy some slips.
Don't know about the other items I'll have to read up on them .

Well my pack of "Lemon Grass" seeds have arrived! Decided on the east indian strain of (Cymbopogon Flexuosus) as it's better suited to our climate!

            So that's a "Starter for 10"

But still loads of time to decide yet!
There's no need to grow it under cover, you can get melons even outside in West Scotland. I grew one one year over a garden arch (Wilts), and it produced 3 - one over 5kg iirc, the other two smaller. You need to keep an eye on it and keep cutting it back if you don't want it to spread!

                    I'm attempting:

Hairy gourd (mo gwa) - had a poke today and I think I have one germinated. The packets of seed from China on eBay are really bad for germination I've found.

Large wax gourd (winter melon or dong gwa) - no sign yet!

Kang Kong (water spinach, entsai) - have 8 plants but I need waaaay more than this as it shrinks down so much on cooking.

Lemongrass - have a pot from rooted supermarket bought from last year. Today potted up another one I rooted from a stalk End leftover from a curry I made a few weeks ago

Edamame! Managed to scrounge seeds today

Bitter gourd - I transplanted two into the soil in greenhouse today.

Chayote - if I manage to scrounge a seedling from my friend's mum again this year. Failed last year as put it in the wrong spot and by the time it got going the frosts hit.

As you can see, I have an interest in Asian veg. Trying to grow veg from my childhood dinners!

My chillies and lemon grass are doing nicely. ( I'd forgotten about the new seed challenge )
But I shouldn't be playing as neither are a new challenge as I grow them every year
Just realised sweet potatoes are on the list as well. I'm growing those for the first time
But again I'm cheating because I brought a small plant

WeeGarden that's a great list! Agree with VC. Photos......lots of photos.

I'll need to look up how to do it again. Been years since I've uploaded photos on this kind of forum. It's not as easy as Facebook, is it?
