Cape Gooseberry destroyed !!!

took me a solid 40 minutes to cut it down - it had really taken over the GH this year. Filled a garden bag and half. It had filled the rafters and was pushing through the glass panels...
Quite the thug. I ate about 10 or so berries as I worked - whilst I quite like them and they are a little unusual around these parts I think that I'll not have it as a perennial in the GH border any longer. I'll overwinter a couple in MFB's and then put them outside come spring. That will doubtless hold the growth back.

Feels a bit odd to be planning on growing something sub-optimally - I generally do that by accident rather than design

Think I'll concentrate on chilli plants in the GH next year with a few bush / cherry toms perhaps.

I bought some seed for these last year as I've never grown one before, but never got around to sowing them, I am reliably told they are rather nice, so will defoe be having a crack at em next year!

They are pretty tasty - citrus sort of taste

They're on my grow list next year. A friend grew them outside this year and had a really good crop but she's more sheltered than me - walled garden in a town, so as I have the gh and the blowaway I might try indoors instead.

I always have some in the GH, tucked away in the corner, as the fruits are a real treat in winter. That little taste of the tropics - bit like a pineapple.

I bought a plant in Wyevale sale for 50p and put it into my greenhouse border

If you grow the pruinosa variety rather than peruviana you will have smaller plants. Much smaller. The pruinosa berries are a bit smaller but much sweeter, if that is your preference.

They'll be back! All mine are self sown.

Need to hack back for cactus collection. There's also a fairly rampant Fuchsia procumbens and a self sown species pelargonium.

I have a couple plants from seed this year. They are at my front door but the weather has not been particularly good in Dumfries and Galloway, so no fruit.

Do you over winter the same way as Chilli plants (cut back and store in a light frost free corner)?
