Beetroot...One of my favourite crops

For 2018 I intend to grow a range of different varieties and see what we like best.

One I have been looking at is Crosby's Egyptian, intrigued by the slightly different shape..anyone grow this type?

So far I have seeds for:
Detroit
Red Ace
Cardeal
Monika
Pablo
Bolivar
Boltardy

We don't like the yellow or Chioggia type but would welcome any other suggestions

GL I grow Kahira Egyptian beetroot every year its one of my favourites, I didn't think much to Chioggia probably because the chutney i made from it turned out and unappetising pink colour.

Cylindra is good, very reliable.
Candy striped and golden varieties don't taste as good, but look great 'mandolined' raw into salads etc.

I've grown boltardy for the last couple of years with decent success but fancied a change so am trying Sanguina for the first time, apparently it's a very dark red variety, so should be interesting. It's open pollinated so if it does well and we have plenty I might try saving some seeds from it if I can resist eating them all.

I've grown Mr Crosby this and last year, mainly because I like the name. Does it have much to offer over some of the other types you listed? Probably not, other than being a fun talking point.

As a bit of a late comer to the delights of beetroot (like many probably, it was shunned due to being brought up having to eat the ghastly pickled stuff) - it is now one of my favourites.

Although I've just grown Boltardy this year, it is possibly one of the easiest things to grow.

I'll try out some of the recommendations on here.

Crapaudine is an interesting choice and not only for the name. Overwinters in the ground brilliantly. Great flavour and good texture.

It's a long beetroot but grows to a fair size. The name is apparently a reference to the skin, as it's a bit cracked (crapaud means toad in French).

Rather apt me asking about Beetroot....my first attempt at modding resulted in me deleting a similar thread, including a recipe for Beetroot ice-cream
