  • Mojo recovery - recommend me something for 2018

I've been lost in horse world for ages. As I've wailed on other threads, my plots have suffered. I'm trying to look forward to next spring and focus on clearing the mess that I've created.

I have sullen clay soil that won't be workable till late March, but things do grow like billy-o in it once it's warmed up. Particularly now I have a never-ending supply of pure aged muck.

Any recommendations for new varieties or plants to try in 2018? What's caught your eye in the catalogues that are out so far?

    Nice to see ya sparrow
Haven't seen anything in the catalogues that makes me want to spend money but planning costs nothing - so I do a lot of that A bit of a rethink and a shuffle of beds brings all sorts of missing mojos to light!

Plenty of veggieness and nuttiness here, as you know
Glad the Horse has recovered enough for you to be here again.

Why not combined growing with your blogging but focusing on "how to" rather than I did ?

You could use your experience of growing on clay to help newbies.

Very much in the same boat "Sparrow" things earlier in the year got in the way a tad, and hasn't been the best of years for me "Veggie" wise!

Will really need to tidy my self created mess up too! But as VC says, planning cost nothing, just imagine a greenhouse full of tomatoes with that distinctive smell, a few pots of chillies sat on the top shelf glistening in multi coloured fruit just begging ya to take home and make use, Oh, n that fat cucumber sat hanging from its vine staring you in the face saying I'm yours! and on passing through the greenhouse said cucumber in hand, passing that bed of various lettuce you've grown and beats the pants off super market stuff.

If that alone doesn't give your "Mojo" a lift! I'd consider taking up "Bowling"

Awww, that's lovely. Missed this place too. And thanks GL, I might try some of that. I have a few unfinished posts I need to scrap or sort out!

Horse unfortunately not better, which makes 'somewhere to de-stress' rocket right up the list of things I must have!

Am looking forward to the RealSeeds catalogue coming out.

I've done a real seed order and amongst others have burgess buttercup squash, sanguina beetroot, dragon purple and long Lisse De Meaux carrots, and leidse hang down broad beans to keep me out of trouble.

Hello Sparrow (waves to screen, You nutter she can't see you, Oh shut up you)

Anyway a bad year for me this year due to Mrs C's stint in hospital, then the recovery and now the additional level of care required, But I'm definitely gearing up and getting ready, the "In My Seed Box" audit I've done on the blog and I'm plotting and planning and going to plan my work and then work my plan. Just arranging 5 tonne of horse do-dars to be dropped off, If I knew the density of manure I could work out the volume allowing 10% for bulking

Bush cutting and clearing new plot Sunday.... Bring it ON.

When my mojo is packing it's bags and heading for the door! I usually search the interweb for all sorts of random gardening related things. Things like new seed companies I've never used before. Many hours spent searching varieties to work out what I'm going to obsess over next year. Looking for lots of new methods of doing stuff. Search many many images of how other gardens are layed out and steel ideas.
Then I start ordering seeds......... When my mojo has started unpacking again!

I too lost my mojo this year - family stuff got in the way - but finger crossed things are looking a bit better and I can get my act together. I've got myself a rat cage and a few traps and will get my rodent problem sorted out first. One down this morning, a few more to go I think.
I'm looking forward browsing for some new Tom seed....SP kindly sent her surplus chilli seed to me so I just need to decide how many of each I'm gonna grow. Wondering if my new daylight bulbs in my workshop will bring a few chillies on early

Sorry to hear that the horse is not better

I'm trying Japanese carrot Samurai next year - they are red and said to be sweeter than orange ones. If they are no good they can always be fed to the horse.
