    • Here's the 12 varieties, 36 plants I'm growing this year.
They've had a few days out starting to harden off.

How's yours doing Deano? Any luck germinating Trafalgar or Long Island?

      • Not sown yet kiddo!

But have just set up a tray for starting em off!

Not worried just yet as the ground in our neck of the woods is only just getting warm from the long cold drawn out spring we have had, and they are really a long season crop sitting through the cold depths of winter and are actually better tasting once they have had a nip!

        Will keep you posted!

First observations..........I've got to many sprouts!

Variety Revenge is considerably smaller and weaker than all the others. All other varieties are pretty much leave pegging at this early stage.

          • I tried sprouts last year. Went to an enormous amount of trouble to net them. They grew really tall and went to seed. They were a blaze of yellow and stuck up through the net. My neighbours bees were ecstatic. The whole bed was abuzz with huge numbers of bugs. I had to pretend it was deliberately done to benefit insects.

            • Sprouts freeze well so having lots is great, boil them for a minute then straight into ice cold water then the freezer

That's very good to know. I may need more freezers

                • I'm growing Brendan this year as they did well for me last season. Tried to grow Trafalgar again but for the second time, none germinated. The seeds were from Thompson and Morgan and they were still in date.

                  • It took me ages to find this thread again. So this post is just complete nonsense ( that makes a change ) so I can find the thread again later when I do an update.

Had a look at my sprouts this morning and they're marble size I was expecting them to be larger by now.

                      • Mine have been battered by mealy cabbage aphid this year. Had to rip a couple out because the tops were destroyed. Going to give them another spray with neem and soap today.

                        • Update time! I've been harvesting a few here and there for a while. After today's closer inspection, I really need to eat a lot more sprout.

                          Evesham special
Grown this once before when I first started gardening. Pretty much the same results. Nothing special! Maybe it doesn't like been up north.

This one is blatantly telling porkies! It's the tallest of all my spouts. Not overly early ( haven't picked any of these yet ). And tiny.

( picked quite a few of these already)

                                Update is complete .

Any other recommendations for next year.?
A lot of my list seem unpopular with seed companies at the moment. Apart from the ones that haven't done well
