  • Take it you like sprouts then Sp ?

I grew a whole 2 VARIETIES last year and the flemmin mice nobbled the embryo sprouts before they even developed. I was not a happy puppy..

    • I haven't sown any, SP. Don't shout at me but I'm thinking of backing out from the Sprout Challenge. In fact, I'm "almost" giving up on cabbagey things as I have so little success with them. Not even sure I like them much!! May just stick to kale .

      Please don't shout.......................

and so, the little chicken slunk off into the undergrowth, trying to find a safe spot to hide.

      • VC you're so funny .
If you don't want to play it's not a problem. It's really not compulsory

Thank you for starting me on this crazy venture and for most of the seeds I'm growing.

I've still got Deano for company ...........right Deano ?

          Probably not for much longer

You fancy stepping in as VC's replacement ( it's asking a lot I know )

          • Thank you SP, you're so understanding.
Maybe I'll have a random scatter and see what comes up. Probably be the best sprouts ever and I won't have a clue what they are.

I assumed that's what you were going to do anyway in your usual VC style

              • I think I'm going to have to sow again. Mine have come up impossibly leggy.

                • I've just sown two varieties - Montgomery and Cromwell.

One came up with 100% germination and the others are a bit reluctant but I can't rememerr which so I'll check tonight.

Last year was my first year growing sprouts but I LOVE them, so I'm going to try a few more after seeing this thread.

Last year they grew well and produced lots of sprouts, but they were a bit small and a lot of them blew, so I think I should have anchored them a bit better.

                  • I grew Brendan last year and picked the last of them 10 days ago. Sowed Trafalgar in February and none germinated so sowed another batch on 6th April. The Brendan and cabbage sown on the same day have germinated, but the Trafalgar is still showing zilch.

Very pleased to hear it's not just me that can't get Trafalgar to germinate

                      • I visited the Isle of Mull last June. We were staying in Ard Tornish for a week. Bought a nice bottle of single malt in Tobermory.

                              • Sorry! Not having been on for a few days just trying a catch-up!

The long island improved as definitely caught my eye and having done a little research it is one I would like to nurture, segregate and in fact save seed from, but now a little worried after your earlier post SP regarding poor germination this may be a fail!

Hey! We'll see, if it's a go it's a go! If not I'll invest in fresh seed next year!

But thanks again both for your generosity!
