Interesting thread I didn't realise there were so many BS to pick from but like Greenleaves I think they take up too much room in the garden to grow them, and way we don't eat a lot of sprouts to justify growing themit may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
Member of the Nutters Club but I think I am just there to make up the numbers

Very impressive VC. Just one question what does award of garden merit actually mean?
I've seen it next to lot of things in seed catalogs/ websites.
Is it someone considerably higher up the food chain than us mere gardeners thinks it looks pretty / tastes nice or is it more significant than that?
Have I just made myself look stupid ( again )? Is this something I should of leaned within the first weeks of ever picking up a seed packet?

You look stoopid, SP? Don't be stoopid
As a for "instance" of AGM awards:-
This month's RHS magazine had the results of their Brussels sprouts trial 2015-2016 - when "they judged 30 cultivars for the Society's highest plant accolade" and gave the AGM to 9 of them.
Their judging criteria included:-
uniformity
height
flavour
yield
colour of buttons (sprouts)
ease of picking
lodging of plants (firm establishment in soil)
holding ability (how well they stay on the stem)
weather resistance
resistance to diseases such as clubroot.
They assessed them in August, October and the following January - cropping continued into February.
The ones listed with 15 by their names were awarded their AGM after this trial. They reconfirmed Maximus and rescinded the previous AGM from Bosworth.
There are reviews for 7 of the sprouts eg
Attwood - a good garden cultivar. stands well, no harshness on raw taste test. H5
It was pure coincidence that the report was in the Nov RHS magazine! They must have known we were talking about sprouts
