Pretty sure I did cook them and still found them unpleasant. They were also a bit tricky to grow as the slugs seemed to like them. I'm not inclined to try again really as space is at a premium - I've even ditched the summer cabbages from next year's plan as they tend to be ready when there is plenty of other veg available and I'd rather grow another bucket of carrots.

Wow, didn't expect so many replies! I tried Chinese cabbage in plenty of salads, it's ok. I haven't eaten any other stuff. I'm not surprised that slugs like it, it's after all a leafy veg.
SelkirkAlex, sauerkraut is well known to me since childhood, texture is a bit challenging(squeaky) when ucooked.
Penellype, did you decide to ditch cabbages because you're not keen on the. Or just can't be bothered?

I quite like cabbage in smallish amounts, and I'm still growing spring cabbage (Spring Hero) and kale. I just find that in the summer when the cabbages are ready there is so much else I'd rather eat - spinach, peas, broccoli, salads, beans, courgettes, tomatoes, peppers... the cabbages get pushed to one side for "later" and then sometimes they bolt before I get round to eating them.A life is like a garden.
