  • Best all-round Cucumber variety for greenhouse?

Hi all, I want an easy to grow greenhouse Cucumber that is good for an amatuer to raise from seed. I haven’t had much look in the past with Cuces so want to start on the right foot this year.

We prefer the straight type rather than the ridge ones that are hard and prickly.

    Kind Regards........Rob

I'd go for Burpless too, they produce well indoors and out.

I like Cucino which are small cucumbers upto about 6 inches long. Easy to grow indoors or out and don't need pollinating. Mini Munch is similar but the fruits are a little smaller.

Just to make things a little more complicated I'm going to suggest Femspot.
Easy to grow from seed. Very productive. Good flavour. No more aftercare needed than with any other variety, just train it up and along things.
I grow it every year in the Polytunnel.

I've had success with La Diva the last few years, it seems to cope well with the odd cold night we sometimes get after planting.

I grew Telepathy cucumber this year for the first time and they were excellent. My partner has a cafe and is picky about what if any veg I grow she can use there but she loved them.

                  I would highly recommend "Anbar"

An all female variety, so as the ability to set fruit on its own devices even in a poor summer.

Fruits in abundance which are about 12 to 18 inch long, slightly ridged, and are as fresh as a daisy!

Carman are a good greenhouse cucumber,I've grown them in my kitchen & by the patio door, long smooth cucumbers. I usually grow the smaller type diva & cucino nowadays, they don't mind the weather outside. Ive had a problem with spider mite indoors a couple of times, they must come in somehow but I haven't seen them for a year or two,if I put a cucumber plant in the kitchen they'd be there!

I rarely grow F1 seeds but cucumbers varieties I do. I've had some disasters when growing varieties that produce male and female flowers.....iv grown Burpless tasty green, Carmen and cucino, all been good - the F1seeds may seem pricey but definately worth it in this case.

This year I grew Mini-Munch for the first time and I have never had a cumber so prolific, tastes good too. This is only one year and we all know that could be a fluke but I already have the seed ready for next season so we shall see.

As usual I set 4 seed knowing that at least one would commit suicide but that didn't happen so I ended up with four plants. The neighbours were frightened to come out into their gardens as I would load them up with cumbers and at one stage SWMBO to 12 up to the old folks home where she volunteers.

I’m liking the sound of Anbar, but hey Burpless Tasty Green sound right up my street too. What the hell, might do a few of each.

                            Cheers everyone......Rob
