a question of sprout

My sprouts don't seem to have formed sprouts yet. What odds of there being any for Christmas day now?

I have uncovered my insect-netted brassicas as the snow was squashing them. Are they likely to get eaten by things - if so, what? I'm assuming insects will be keeping a low profile, but aren't pigeons supposed to go for them?

(trying to work out if it's worth (a) putting the insect netting back over, (b) putting some bird netting over, or (c) not bothering...)

there's some purple sprouting in there as well that I'm cautiously optimistic over.

Pigeons don't eat my plants but some people talk about pigeons eating their plants,baby starlings ate a few bits of young Brussels sprouts leaves once but that's all that's happened. If there's no sprouts now,then there isn't enough time for them to grow before Christmas,but maybe there are some sprouts on the plants,near the top hidden under leaves? Some varieties take longer than others?

It's not looking hopeful...

On the plus side, this means I could re-enact Christmas dinner with sprouts in January!

They were very slow to start this year. I think the bed might have been a bit crowded. Definitely 2 brassica beds next year...

Mine are exactly the same, just little nubs at present. So much for growing all the veg for Christmas dinner!

do you know what variety yours are? (not that I have my notebook with me, so I can't return the info until this evening)

A few of mine have done the same. Luckily they were just my overflow plants that weren't given enough space. So I'm assuming the lack of space is the course of it. Especially as I have the same varieties with more space in another bed that have produced very well.

No idea at all! I was given a grow your own Christmas dinner vegetable plug plants box as a gift, so the variety was already chosen. I dont think mine are too close together, im fairly sure i stuck to the recommended spacings
