  • My overwintered peppers are misbehaving! They keep growing tiny sprouts with flower buds on, rather than any meaningful growth.
I keep pinching the flower buds off, but they still haven't got the message yet

Good job I have some seedlings to replace them with if they don't get a move on!

Potting on into new compost should be enough....tomato feed is ok for chillies but I wouldn't have thought you would need it with fresh compost. Light levels are low so I wouldn't expect fast growth, slow and steady is best.

        • Chillies had their first day in the tunnel.
They've all had a good drink and most have been potted on.

I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Noticed that one of the Bulgarian carrot seedlings is a bit unusual. Bit of a cabbage head going on. Picture 1 & 2 and centre of 3. Other 2 (L & R) are fine. Close inspection and no sign of aphids.

By cabbage head should say that the leaves are would appear to be forming a cabbage heart. The leaves are much short (not the typical pointed chilli leaf).

not been treated any different from others. bit of a mystery?

Cull it and focus on L & R?

                  Any ideas?

Interesting, not seen that before. Could speculate, but hopefully you can grow it on and see what happens. When it gets more warmth and light, might start growing normally, or at least we might have a better idea what's going on.

Are you feeding them? Tomato food or the specialised chilli feeds might have too much potassium and, erm, whatever the other element is called. (Alzheimers strikes early.) I would try them on some high nitrogen feed to boost the vegetative growth not the flowering / fruiting.

I agree with Chris11 - I'd keep growing it on and see what happens. It doesn't look diseased so I wouldn't worry too much.

                        • In small plastic pots with it's own plastic enclosed mini cloche that came in a 3 chilli kit in Poundland. Serrano, Jalapeno and Cayenne.

                            Question is
                            a. put it onto reserve list
                            b. Give promotion to top of list at expense of its fellow sibling.

                            A decision for another day

Still time yet Marb, but possibly need more heat to gerrminate..Do you have a heated prop?
