Chillies - growing and overwintering 2018

Eeek. First day out in the frame today. Just a couple of hours, a bit more tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous! How did I get so emotionally involed with these plants? It can't be healthy. Anyway, what you think, door down to protect them a bit more from the wind but it will get hot, or door up to keep 'em cool off expose them to the elements a bit more? Or half-way up for a bit of both?




EDIT: Most on the side are chllis, some are tomatillos, on the ground are the toms.

They're looking good.
Door open or closed? That's tricky! Not knowing how windy it is and not knowing how warm it is in the sun just there. Sorry to say that's a classic make it up as you go along

the seed leaves on two of my chillies have dropped off and some of the others are starting to turn slightly yellow ,is this due to over watering ? please any advice would be most wellcome !

The seed leaves will fall off when the plant has finished with them. It perfectly normal. Don't worry about it. You're not doing anything wrong.

OK, so the wind calmed down and it was really hot down here. I was going to bring them in at 11am, but they seemed to be loving it in the sunshine, not sulking at all, leaves tracking the sun, so I left them out all day checking on them periodically. Then I saw that nighttime lows were 14C and spur-of-the moment decided to leave them out overnight. Just checked, and they are still looking happy this morning! Looks like they didn't need hardening off, probably because the fan I put on them and the direct sunlight next to the windowsill has prepared them.

As a perpetual trier of all things new, I had to search the Sweet Apple Kambe and it sounds amazing, is it as good as it sounds?

I then searched the Peter Pepper.......there's a market for hen do chilli tasting with that one!

I'll let you know about the sweet Apple kambe. My first time growing it. Hope it's as good as the pictures and the write up.

Those of you who have grown Fish Pepper - I have three seedlings potted up (several pairs of leaves but still quite small) only one of which is showing some white variegation on the leaves. Are the others likely to develop some variegation later or are they most likely to stay plain green? The main reason I am growing them is for the look of the plant rather than the taste so I would prefer them to have nice splashes of white on them.

First time growing fish and it doesn't have much variegation on the leaves. I'm hoping for stripy fruit. That my reason for growing and to see what it tastes like

I sowed 15 different chilies , some new seed some last years.
In a heated propagator 20 to 25 deg C.
At least 6 seeds of each.
4 weeks later only about 5 have appeared out of the lot.

The toms all came up and are potted on now.
I think after years of not doing well with chilies I am going to buy them in the future.
Given the amount of time required to keep them heated etc I think that's a good idea.
Anyone agree ?

Do whatever works best for you
With all the specialist supliers there's nothing you can't get as a plug plant. So you won't be limited on varieties.

Personally I enjoy the challenge of trying to keep 40+ chillies in a 2ft x 2ft window cill, of various stages of development for 5+ months !
But then I am nuts
