An Alphabet of Oddments!

Oddments - those seeds that you buy on impulse but never get sown. They lurk in your seed box and stare at you accusingly, because they want to grow, and you won't give them a chance!

I've been pulling these out of their various hidey holes and I'll give you a letter at a time and perhaps you could tell me if you've grown them? Maybe you have some Oddments of your own that need sowing in 2018?

Annona Cherimola (Custard apple) - The seeds look too small to be custard apples but that how they were named when given to me. Also quite old so probably not viable.

I've grown asparagus peas from seed. Very easy to grow. Beautiful looking plant. Just don't eat the things! Bitter very very bitter. Eat the beautiful red flowers.
Very productive as well if I remember correctly

I've grown both of these from seed and over the last few years weeded out the ones with vicious spikes
If you sow them in the summer and keep them in pots in the greenhouse (best in soil not compost IMO) you can discard the worst of the spikeys in Spring when you plant out - you'll get a fair crop that summer
I've a new bigger plot from March and will take them with me

So deffo worth sowing - fingers crossed they will germinate!

Oh yes, I've finally managed to talk them into letting swap 2 tiny plots at opposite ends of the site, for one full-size allotment at the sunny, top end of the site. Better soil and it drains freely. Oh and it has an enormous shed! Result

I've grown amaranth as microgreens - the ones I have are bright red. Very colourful but don't really taste of much.

SP, did you have to shout so loud? ............and did you tell that lady to ring my door bell when I wasn't dressed? .............Its so exciting when you see someone at your door with a big bouquet of flowers - but not so good when they're for next door.
Anyway. give me a moment while I have a coffee and I'll tell you what's on the B envelope.

However, I've just bought from RealSeeds Beetroot Seeds to buy in the UK from The Real Seed Catalogue
Beetroot "Touchstone Gold" "An incredibly rare strain, recently rescued from extinction".
This one is definitely on my "To grow" list.
Has anyone tried it?

I look at this and think of Jay-els allotment. Not that I is saying Jay is odd!

I don't think I'm mad enough to try growing bananas up here. Those beetroot look very pretty . I'm having a year off from beetroot growing next year.
