Seed sowing thread 2018

Today I sowed the first batch of Nipper leeks (these are direct sown, the Musselborough's are in rootrainers for planting out when ready) and my second sowing of Palace parsnips.

The first parsnip sowing was ages ago in kitchen roll tubes and were planted out 4 weeks ago. This batch is my second variation of sowing - direct into the ground (and a dustbin) but by prodding decent 'snip sized holes, filling them with good compost and sowing onto that. It'll be interesting to see which method gives me the best results.

Still no sign of parsnips or carrots which I showed a few weeks ago.

We are expecting storms and heavy rain tonight, should I worry about them disturbing the seed?

Spuds, carrots and beetroot today, and put a few broad bean seedlings in the ground too. Will do a few indoor bits like pumpkins and courgettes tomorrow - but with such lovely weather and dryish soil I wanted to get cracking with the outdoor stuff today. Hopefully a good storm tomorrow will water them in nicely!

Well we missed the storm AND my early Nantes carrots have started germinating. Also got 5 out of 8 leek seedlings appearing.

2 varieties Courgette and even more peas ( all of them ). Having low germination but after looking at the date on the packet I'm not surprised

Today I sowed a large tub of rooster main crop,two bags of charlotte,one bag of Lady C potatoes & a 10” pot of purple plum radish.

I've got some growing nicely now... Giant variety, it'll be interesting to see how tall they get.

Slugs have made a start on one of them, which I'm not too happy about, but wrapped some foil around and hoping that will deter them.

Going to sow some more tomorrow, just so I have backup.
