Had my first pea-shoots of the year I probably could have had them all winter but a rather horrible exam last November rather limited my gardening endeavours from about mid-August.
Seen, alongside many little seedlings and some bought cabbage/mange tout plants, here:
Also picked and ate my first ever mushrooms. Only got two, but they were big - 137g between the two of them! Hoping for another harvest or two from this kit, and then I'll try and see if I can get some more crops by adding the growing medium to a new food source.
Edit: Forgot to say, the mushrooms turned into a very nice mushroom omelette for my lunch, eaten with a lovely pea-shoot based salad.
So happy to have collected my 1st harvest of the year.. was worried about my overwintered salad crops during the frost and snow (one pot of rocket had been completely covered with snow twice!!) But all survived and actually the frost increased the peppery flavour of the rocket. Delicious in my salads!!
Also, pak choi has been doing really well and wasnt affected by the harsh weather. I collected a few of the mature heads (before the snails get them)
Mint is showing good signs of vigourous growth so made a fresh mint tea.
So glad the season has began again for me and the overwintered crops have done so well, I shall try different ones for next year now that i know it has been successful.
Today i harvested calabrese, kale shoots and the first asparagus spear, all from polytunnel. Was tempted to eat them for breakfast but i think ill save them for lunch with a couple of poached eggs.
