  • Potted my cucumbers into their separate pots.
Potted on some chilli and peppers.
    Pricked out some more marigolds.
    Watered and fed the tomatoes.
Lots of odd jobs done as well.
Spent quite a bit of time tonight wrapping up all the plants.
Temp seems to be getting lower at night.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

    • Mixed up and watered in my anti-slug army of nematodes. They are supposed to be used after rain when it's going to stay wet for a couple of weeks so today seemed the best day to do it. Pretty chilly out there though - it feels colder than the 8 degrees it's supposed to be. Maybe because I have been sploshing around cold water?

I really hope they do something to protect my plants from the upcoming slug apocalypse.

I do think I must have looked crazy to my neighbours, watering all my sodden containers and my wet lawn...

      • Ridged up spuds.
Planted out 3 Sunflowers. Maybe a bit early for them, but I’m away next week. If they are still ok on Saturday, I’ll plant out the rest. Otherwise I’ll have to find away to keep them watered.

        • Last night I planted out two clematis in the hedgerow and picked up bits of glass for a while. Then I earthed up the charlottes.

Today I rejoiced that the forecast was wrong and instead of raining all night and all morning, it stopped before bedtime and was dry in the morning.

I got on the plot at 5.30 and dug over the rest of the bean and pea bed and limed it. Then I did some sundry shifting and tidying, then weeded, weed matted and mulched the fruit bushes.

          • I went to my plot after work (hooray for long daylight days!)

My peas are sprouting! (good), but the net I threw over them to keep them from being dug by birds/mice/etc doesn't give them enough clearance to grow. I need to bodge some kind of small frame out of canes and flowerpots to keep them covered.

all my early spuds are all sprouting.

so, alas is the marestail, so first weeding session for that of the year.

also the grass is over a foot tall...

            • I loathe having to handle and sort out netting.... awful stuff. But I'd be pea-less without it!

              • I've just stuck with insect net, it's a lot easier to handle than that awful green stuff... (obv it'll need to be off for pollination

                • Fitted my new Gardena wall-mounted, auto-retracting hose reel to replace the rubbish Hozelock. The new one reaches all the way down to the bottom of the garden and is much better than the old one.

Pricked out basil and summer savoury seedlings into individual pots/modules. The savoury seedlings were very leggy, I've buried them up to the cotyledons and hoping for the best.

                  Thinned my lettuce seedlings.

Watered the bergenia divisions. Checked one of the spares I put in a pot and it is forming roots from the rhizome so hopefully the ones in the ground are too.

                  • Back from plot.
                    Beetroot seedlings now planted out.
Also, sowed additional beetroot, carrots and radishes.
Prepped area for French beans and put up 4 wigwams.
Now its time for a rest and a beer .

                    • Also managed to apply nematodes. Got mixed advice on whether or not they’d wash through Strulch so I used a hoe to make pockets everywhere to expose the soil and washed in thoroughly. A bit of rain would help too.

Will find out on the weekend if they’ve done the job.

                      • I got a bit behind myself this week as work went crazy.
But Saturday was a great day and I planted a tomato and cucumber into my new small polytunnel. I hope it’s not too early but forecast not showing any very cold weather.
I planted out some tiny sunflower seedlings hoping they will be ok as a hardy annual.
Digger Man filling in the aborted giant pond project. This is going to be expensive but I’m so tired looking at the giant hole and I’m trying to think what I will plant once it’s filled in.
I’ve planted out a few mangetout peas and have more nearly ready to go out. Also put out some psb and kale plants. I’ve covered them with a net cloche as the garden is full of pigeons.
I also planted out under a very large cloche a courgette plant and a bush tomato. I’m holding back with the chilli plants as I didn’t grow any from seed and had to pay for a couple so don’t want to take any chances.
                        I even cut the grass....

                        • Planted up a basket with red and yellow tumbling tom tomatoes, also planted up a air-pot with a sweet million tomato, on getting information from AP I have inserted a length of capillary matting to see if it helps keep the pot moist
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Potted on some chillies - pineapple aji and pink halbernos, mostly filled 3rd raised bed, weed suppressed the couch grass that is rapidly taking over the communal orchard
