I've weeded, mooched, stayed in the shade, eaten a strawberry, thought about planting out and changed my mind. All in all, a very busy day - I'm exhausted.
Lots of house work because friends were coming round.
Layed some more slabs.
Tidied up rubble and pallets that slabs were on.
Potting up more chillies.
Setting up a new hardening off bench.
Juggled lot of plants around.
Showed friends round garden.
Potted up even more chillies.
Planted out some kale - Cavolo Nero, Red Russian and Hungry Gap. Made a very scrappy attempt at covering with veggiemesh, I'm sure the butterflies will find a way in!
Watered everything.
Re stocked sales barrow.
Planted up bed 3 with pumpkin and courgette
Planted up bed 6 with squash and sunflowers.
Removed tomato armpits
Got another pot filled and watered ready for a chilli to be potted up tomorrow.
Put all the summer additions back on my pimped shed. And put up the new bunting I made from scallop shells .
Filled the last two raised beds. Planted out leeks in the 'tall' one, and some more leeks in a spare patch of the 'out of the rotation bed'. Planted out zinnias (which I now read are a sub-tropical plant, so i'm unlikely to get the flowers I crave... ), nasturtiums, a dozen or so sunflowers and a bunch of tagetes and cosmos. Created a fleece frame for the zinnias. Sowed radishes, swede, more parsnips and salad leaves.
Planted out sweetcorn, pumpkins and courgettes and cloched them.
Thoroughly weeded the onion bed. *polishes halo*.
Watered pretty much damned everything, since it's dry as dust several inches down in some beds. Grrr.
Hoed potatoes, peas, broad beans, anywhere else that needed it.
Planted out 5 sprouts and two PSB.
All this planting out sounds like a small job, but it's SO HARD. I have to water the ground first to dig it, dig up anything that shouldn't be there, add chicken manure or BFB depending on what and where, add supports, add watering pots for courgettes etc, add cloches for sweetcorn, curcurbits etc, add supports then water, put down slug stuff and tidy up. This update represents HOURS and HOURS of hard work... !!
Weeded spinach, carrots, beetroot and radishes.
Harvested some lovely lettuce, radishes and beetroot thinnings. Delicious.
Potted up some more chillies.
Done a bit of tidying in the chillie tunnel.
Planted out peas, 52 lettuce! and companion plants.
Weeded, sorted and planted herbs.
Fed chillies and tomato.
Tidied shed
Put all the raised bed covers away. Horrible job, they never fit back in the box they came out of!
Put a fresh layer of manure in the Belfast sink. Ready for the watercress.
Yesterday I was avoiding housework.
Put up 3 hanging basket brackets and hung the baskets that I made up two weeks ago.
Moved garden seat to where it gets the morning sun.
Transplanted some wild foxgloves to side of house, dog likes to nibble grass so need to watch what is near her buffet zone.
Moved some plants and weeded.
