      • Well I wasted the entire day yesterday. At work. Sigh. Today I’m going to sit out in the poly tunnel and sieve some leafmould. I have an idea about using it to grow some carrots in parts. Maybe add some blood fish and bone. My home made compost is so full of weed seeds I wouldn’t dare sow carrots in it.

        • Yesterday's day off work was a washout with heavy rain and high winds but today was sunny so, as I don't start work until 5pm, I nipped up the allotment to do a few jobs.

Checked plants in greenhouse and then decided to tidy out the weeds from the polytunnel beds as I'll then be able to see what flowers I could salvage for the beds and what could go on the compost heap. Took less than an hour and looks so much tidier. Only downside was my finding a tub of chicken manure pellets which, as the tunnel hasn't had a cover on since August, were filled with water and STUNK!!!!! Thankfully I have a poor sense of smell but jeeeeeez these ponged!!!!! Even I was almost gagging so just as well Neil wasn't with me

Had to take a before & after pic on my phone because silly me forget to check the camera had a memory card in it!!! I'll upload them once I suss out how

          • Pinched out the growing tips of my Sweet pea plants and staked them up with a little support.
They have started putting out tendrils and are looking good.

            • It was a lovely day here today. I got out into the back garden and emptied one compost bin and turned bin 2 into bin 1. It gave me three barrowloads of nice compost which I spread over the square foot bed ready for the spring. Not so long to wait now!

              • I am itching to get planting now that spring is on the way. Managed to restrain myself, other than some cress seeds on the kitchen windowsill....

You could use the compost for the bulk and top off with leaf mould as a mulch weed barrier. Just pick the twigs out of each and away you go.

                  • First experience with pricking out sweet poupila seedlings that had sprung up in my heated propagator - all well, methinks. Now approximately 30 leeklings, three chilli (from Small Pumpkin) and four sweet pepper babies on the sunniest windowsill in the house. Or near, as a few infants started to bake in yesterday's sunlight.

                    Off to a good start!

                    • Brought in more compost to warm up.
                      Potted on some more chillies.

                        • Hadnt thought of that. Ill give it a go and also see if I can use another pot with leaf mould and blood fish and bone. May as well do a few experiments.
One of my resolutions this year is to try to not buy-in just so much compost. I have multiple large compost heaps and its time I started to use them. Also an almost unlimited source of Leaf-mould. There are 1000 seats and a packet of carrots. If I can get the growing medium almost free it has enormous appeal for me. Similarly Im planning on potatoes in pubs in mostly homegrown compost only for mould. We will see how it works out.

                          • Finally finished weeding the bigger of the new beds.
Finished filling the smaller new bed with homemade compost.
                            Sown seeds.

                            • Finished bunging in plants and bulbs in the front border which has had a face lift.
                              Sowed some seeds.
Lots of gawking at the amount of stuff that needs doing but will have to wait till I am right.

                              • I trimmed some overgrown hedges and tidied up my patio. I set up my little blow away greenhouse and sowed some spinach and lettuce to go in it. I potted on some walking stick kale that had outgrown their pots.
