    Pruned my two rose bushes.
Cut back all the withered leaves on my outdoor strawberries.
Sowed half a pack of strawberry seed that I bought in Spain last year (ruby)
Sowed some spring onions (white lisburn)
Took all the sweet peas out of the propagater and fleeced them in the cold conservatory.
Generally pottered around as it was a lovely day.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Not a good day today. I went to the allotment to feed the worms and do a few minor repairs to the polytunnel. After adding another tray to the wormeries and putting food in them I went to check on the polytunnel. This is what I saw. Total carnage.

I'm not sure what to do right now. I don't think I'll bother with another polytunnel but I would like something. I might build my own structure or I might invest in a large greenhouse.

Last job I did was to move the young asparagus plants that I had overwintering in the polytunnel into my smaller greenhouse.

          Oh Dynamo, how awful.
So sorry for what's happened to you.

Thanks for that Bramble and anyone else who is concerned. To be honest I'd known it was on its last legs anyway and didn't expect it to see the summer out. My brother gave it to me because it was surplus to his requirements but it's pretty obvious it wasn't an expensive one. Having it though, even for just one summer, proved how great an acquisition it was so I'm determined to purchase either a better quality one or maybe even a large greenhouse. I'm 57 now so I'm looking for something that will hopefully last another 20 or 30 years.

On a lighter note, I've also ground some egg shells down to go into in my wormeries.

Me and the gardeners little helper when for a check round the garden after last nights strong winds. The growing arch didn't make it. It didn't go anywhere because it was tied down but that didn't stop it folding in half. So we set about taking it apart. Hopefully be able to put it back together just not quite so high. As we were playing out in the strong wind already we continued by removing all the fence posts that were in the corners of the raspberries and Tay berry beds. Then dug out the all the raspberries . Breeze was very helpful with this job. Removing those thing felt so good .

Put fresh seaweed in my liquid feed.
Put chicken wire up to stop the deer sticking their heads through the stock fence and eating my mint.
Worked out measurements for the 2 new raised.

With a rather long gap (27th Aug 2017!!) since my last update.... gabion cages have been filled a bit more but need the ground to dry up before I can rescue some of the stone from a collapsed and mostly buried wall.

Sadly during a hay delivery in autumn Mr Farmer bounced one of the big round bails off the trailer and on to some of the 2/3 full cages (around 300kg round bale.... so I wasn't going to try and stop it!) so I have spent a while fixing those cages.

4 of the new outdoor beds have been made over winter, another 4 to go. They are 2m x 1.2m and about knee high.

Mostly filled with "donations" from the horses mixed with finely chopped hemp straw bedding (the mixture rots down REALLY quickly) then today I have emptied my compost bins on the top to give a layer of compost.

Also clearing the polytunnel as that largely got abandoned at the tail end of 2017. 3 of the beds cleared yesterday and a bit more clearing to do this afternoon. Refills the compost bins!

I really have abused and underused my plot this last year!

But I've made a start! and will have a full day on it tomorrow!

If I can just clear the greenhouse n poly, replenish the soil, then being off next week I can kick some "Butt" on the outside beds!

                    I really live in hope!

I made a start at preparing the ground to put my new greenhouse on since the demise of my polytunnel. This is how it looked after the clearly.

Finished ripping out the rest of the fruit, that I've wanted to rip out for the last 3 year. I'm keeping the currant bushes and Logan berries.
Re done the measurements for my new beds again.

The sun peeped out, so moved the onion seedlings out of the heated prop into an unheated one(still in the conservatory) and planted some Sweetpeas in root trainers in the heated one, almost proper gardening. Once the Onions have got used to the lack of bottom heat I will pot them on from the modules into bigger plant pots in the next week, they are in MPC rather than seed compost, so no rush as they have some grub in there.

You and me both mate! 2017 was a rubbish year for me as Neil was out of work until late August so finances were virtually non-existent, a new boss turned our shop completely around and I went from part-time to full-time so the allotment became overgrown and neglected The flowers looked fantastic and I'm sure the bugs and beasties will have appreciated the undisturbed beds for the summer I also completely lost my gardening mojo and seeing the plot so weedy was so disheartening but now things have picked up and I'm itching to get stuck in! Got a few days off and late *7pm* starts this coming week so go a few jobs to do on the plot and I cannot wait!
