Also picked up lots of seed from the seed swap table and some seaweed fertiliser.

    • Pricked out tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce that were seeded 12th Feb in the heated prop. The cucumbers are up nearly 4 inches, I may need to consider lights to stop them getting too leggy rather than the south facing bedroom windowsill.
One of the front garden flowr borders got some angled pavers/bricks to edge the concrete path and stop the lovely fertile soil getting washed away. Trouble is all that decaying leaf mould, rotted pig muck and wood chip that make sgraet soil also contains lots of worms and bugs so the birds decend upon it this time of year for a feed.

      • The ground was still too wet for digging, so I pruned an apple tree and sourced a couple of old pallets for building my second compost bin, and set out my seed potatoes to start chitting

          • Today I sowed some calabrese, leeks and brussels sprouts in pots in the greenhouse, then took a second set of chrysanthemum cuttings.

                    • Translation ... was just like being back on the farm . Hence the doric

Was to be a day to howk the plot. Looked out the window and noticed a gype of a shilty
Was going to dig the Veg Patch. Looked out the windows and noticed that a pony had got it self tangled up in the fence.

Went to see the chiel. He got oot his mobility scooter, a wee pail of pony nuts and the wire cutters.

Went to see the young man (he is 85) to see if he could phone for help. He got onto his mobility scooter with a small backet of pony nuts, and the wire cutters.

Ended up in a sotter, waldies foo of watter, dubs all over my claes, fechting aff 6 shilts whilst trying to free the 7th - (pony)

(There were 7 ponies in the field. Plan was to use the pony nuts to calm her down, close the gate in a muddy corner with standing water to stop them escaping, and then release the pony)

Ended up in a mess. My Wellies full of water, mud all over my cloths, keeping 6 ponies away whilts trying to free the 7th with the wire cutter.

We got them all into the biggin and sorted them oot.

We got them all into a building and was able to remove the remaining wire and check it over.

all back in the park noo.

They are all back into the field now

Hid to get a new rig-oot. Went to toun for some tae instead

Had to go and change my cloths and went to the nearest village for a cut of tea instead of digging the plot.

                      Perhaps veg patch tomorrow.

I was brought up in the North East (Scotland), but didn't learn how to write Doric

Jist to say is was a fair fecht

Just to say it was quite hard to get the wire off. Pony was jumpy and kicked about a bit, but it was in pain so that was ok.

                      ....

                      So Veg patch digging today

                      • Put out the first early spuds to chit.
Ordered a 60w LED twin neck grow light. Sounds fancy but I'll find out later if it was worth it. Just received email notification it will be delivered today before 9pm. Now I have to go find my timer socket.

                        • Clipped hedges until my shoulders started to hurt. Moved on to cutting bramble and piling it up to dry out ready for burning. We have a big, neglected garden with bramble, thistles and nettles. I really want to clear as much as I can before spring growth makes the job even harder but it's so much work and progress is really slow.

                          • Started ripping out and (trying to) burn off the old 3-pallet compost bins on the plot - they were taking up too much space and I wasn't composting enough material to make em worthwhile. I've got 3 daleks that I no longer need at home so they will go up in its place. probably get an extra 3ft * 5ft growing space for weeds...

Was nice to watch the sun go down with a fire spluttering away in the background.

                              Weeded bed 7
                              Weeded all 12 mint tubs.

                              • Today I finally managed to fit the last polycarbonate panes to my new 8'x20' greenhouse. There's still a small matter of putting some sort of a floor down and I plan to strengthen the pane fixtures so the panes hopefully won't go walkabout when the wind gets up.
