    • Inspired by NG's feeling overwhelmed thread, I made a list and trudged through snow to the plots with my loppers. Hacked at the boundary hedge for 2 hours, with breaks to restore feeling in my fingers and toes, and stomped home. Job not totally jobbed, but as it should have been reduced in December and as it looks a darned sight better now than it did before, I am pleased!

      • Sowed some tomatoes. Grumbled at the weather.

        • Planted two bags of Charlotte potatoes in the polytunnel.
Planted up three hanging baskets with the strawberry plants I dug up and chucked in buckets at the end of last year. I'll grow them in the tunnel for an early crop.
Moved the third of my five blueberry bushes to roughly where I want it's final position to be.
Spread some more woodchip on my paths.
Took a load of plastic and metal rubbish up to the communal bin.
Watered the beans, onions and Spring greens in the tunnel.

          • Opened the back door and found sunshine. Took advantage of sunshine to pot up dahlias, sow some more broad beans and some peas.

            • Sowed seeds.
Potted on some more of my tomatoes.
Dead headed and pruned some bits and pieces.
              Did a bit of weeding.
Came in when the sun disappeared as it's still freezing.
Temp in the greenhouse got up to mid 20's this afternoon.

              • Potted on some of my last sowings of Chillis. Really impressed with germination rates

                • I sowed 90 marigold Keez and 200 marigold Bonita seeds in pots. I've still got some Crackerjack seeds to sow tomorrow.

I also planted 6 more baby plum tomatoes in my big greenhouse and later on bought 10kg of Epsom Salts off eBay for £9.99 including p&p. I've never used Epsom salts before but I've seen countless videos on YouTube where the gardeners have sworn by the stuff so it'll be interesting to see if it works.

                  • Another busy day at the Lottie and in the greenhouses. First here are 16 holes I dibbed to about a foot and then filled them with compost and finally covered them in a cloche to help warm the soil a bit and protect the ground. I'll plant parsnips in them tomorrow.

I sowed another 200 marigolds, crackerjack, and then took them all to my allotment greenhouse. There's probably a lot more than I'll have room for but you never know. I'm sure someone will want any spares.

Finally I sowed a tray of peppers from an orange fruit and another from a yellow fruit and then some chill peppers, Aji Delight, and then finally a tray of Ocra seeds. They are supposed to be difficult to grow but I'm hopeful I'll get some nice ladies fingers from them.

                    • Managed to grab a bit of time in the garden this morning before having to go out to a family lunch.
Weeded and covered the patch for my potatoes with black plastic.
I was very surprised to find the soil quite dry.
Watered all the Sweet peas, tomatoes and peppers.
                      All doing well so far.

                      • Little bit of seed sowing.
Potted of Bartholomew into his final pot. Now in the tunnel full time. With a fleece blanket at night.
                        Finished putting stones between slabs.

                        • Way behind on things so have spent the last 5 or so hours sowing seeds and will keep going until I run out of compost

                          • Set up water Butt Nr2 connected to water Butt Nr Nr1 which had to be reset and levelled in the process - much higher harder than it sounds!

Cut underlay to fit NZ compost bays after donation of said material from a friend.

                            Potted on further chillis.

                            • Quick trip to the plot with the boys after tea to drop off some stuff and habe a look around. Dug a couple of exploratory strips of the raspberry bed (gorgeous soil but full of hedge roots) and the main crop potato bed (thick with weed roots, wire and happily worms) and plotted my Thurs morning session.

                              • Spent the morning helping a friend put up posts and wire on their allotment to support Raspberry canes.
Left feeling happy and content in the knowledge that it made my friend happy.

Got a phone call from my daughter on the way home informing me that her Father in Law had just suffered a Fatal Heart attack whilst at the Gym.

She lives 400 miles away so it spoiled my day knowing I wasnt able to be there to give her a hug.

My thought are with her, my Son in law and 2 grand daughters.

Puts the subject of weather and gardening into perspective really...?
