  • Spent some time in the greenhouse potting on Toms and Sprouts. Also potted salvaged strawberries.
Then it started to rain again so had a beer or two.
Sometimes you just have to scratch that itch and get dirt under your finger nails.

    • Potted on some chilli and some of my dahliad.
Sowed some marigolds firecracker and some dwarf variety.
Dug and prepared the ground for my Sweet peas.
Dug out some nettles and put them in a bucket to make plant food.
Did some tidying and cleaning and weeding of course.
      A very productive day.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

      • Put onion sets into 3 trays of spent tomato compost in the greenhouse as I really couldn't bear to be spending any time outside planting them out directly.

Also found very small garlic bulbs I grew last year. They were sitting in the outhouse and I totally forgot about them. Don't know how they got so tiny but I decided to stick them into some compost to see how they fair.

Threw together yet another raised bed - dug out compost from the former location of compost bins at the end of the garden - lovely stuff - the bins have been relocated to the plot - I now have to relocate 7 or 8 buckets of compost - I think I might use Mrs B's car for that
I’m in Northern Ireland in County Down. It should be pretty mild here but not this spring. However I have a feeling everything is going to burst into rapid growth shortly when things warm up.

            • Made a cuppa. Its precipitating it down again but if I don't get stuff sorted this week.... so I'll be getting wet at the plot whilst trying to stay off the soil.

                      • Got soaked at the plot - didn't feel waterproof - went home had caffeine went back to plot - got last of spuds planted
Couple of buckets of compost dumped into the new raised beds - left bits of compost in Mrs Balders car ( it won't get through its next MOT anyway so its all fine..) (electrics not brakes - it makes a fine allotment motor)
Two bags of brambles from the back garden - I don't understand why no-one else in this household likes growing and gardening (I had gauntlets on, wet hat, Aldi work trousers that wre soaked through, my socks whilst inside boots were wet when I took 'em off)
Perhaps in 30 years time my kids will go 'I fondly remember dear dear papa growing succulent cucumber, vibrant sweetcorn and delicious soft fruits - it was joyous!' - but I doubt it....

                            • Mr Blue Sky has been out all day. So thought I’d make the most of the sunshine and knock up a couple of Brassica cages. Just need to fit the netting once I have taken them to the allotment.

The low height will be for Cabbages, Cauliflower and the like. While the tall one is for Brussels Sprouts and Broccoli.
