  • Lots of potting on.... courgettes, chillies, peppers.
Very excited my Himalayan blue Poppy’s are doing well and 4 of them are 1 inch tall so I potted those 4 on to there own seperate pot. 6 more left but not ready to be potted on yet. I hope the 4 I did survive.

      • It's warmed up here this afternoon. It stopped raining and the wind calmed down.
Chillies are now in the tunnel permanently. A few more put into final pot.
Dug over bed 1, 4, 7, 8, 9, & the tunnel bed. With the help of the Mantis.

        • Back to normal, lashing down and blowing a hoolie! All I managed was fill 2 fish boxes with manure and home made compost. One for sweet corn, one for the indoor Tromboncino.

            • Bit late, but yesterday I planted out my first batch of plugs. Chard, perpetual spinach, first batch of lettuce and rocket, marigolds, tomatoes and chillies.

Also thinned my carrots late in the evening.

              • Potted on my cucumbers and a Burgess Buttercup squash. Took my cell grown marigolds, calendula and cosmos down the plot ready for planting out.
                Watered everything under cover.
Added kitchen waste, grass clippings and shredded card to all active compost bins.
Dug out a few docks and other nasties.
Picked two caulies and a bunch of asparagus for tea.
Left wishing I had a few more hours to spend there in the sun!

                • Potted up Nasturtiums that are sprouting in my parsnip bed, not sure what happened but all those I sown in compost never came.

                    • Managed some time in the garden today. Used up one compost bin planting up Tom's and chili's - all in gh now, plus some french tarragon. Emptied top half of two bins into the newly emptied one and was pleasantly surprised to find lots more compost - had thought I might need to buy a lot this year. Emptied dalek on top of the other stuff.

Promptly filled newly empty dalek by weeding the veg plot - must cover beds with cardboard this winter - don't think nettles etc count as green manure

Planted out a handful of bunching onions I'd bought, and rescued 3 pots of neglected chives and stuck in a bed.

Went to farmers co-op with OH to buy materials for super duper new arches. Realised I may have to jig around the paths in my beds to line up with each other.

Best day yet in the garden this year - seed sowing tomorrow
                      Another happy Nutter...

                      • Well, that's almost all of the leeks I sowed in 2016 gone - just the ones in buckets left and some are starting to flower so they might have to come out their buckets soon. Replanted some as they still have a bit growing to do - guess I'll check back next year

Winter allium bed weeded and mulched with grass cuttings. Bean bed weeded, sweetcorn sown and 1/3 of a bed has had it's weed membrane dug out.

Packing the paths with newspapers and grass cuttings to reduce/weaken the weeds.

Grape vines are doing nicely ut not as well as the kiwi (looks like flower buds on it), apples, cherry and pear are blossoming. Black currant, gooseberries red currants all laden with tiny fruits. Broadies are flowering, as are the strawberries.

                        • Mowed the lawn, after rescuing two frogs. I’ve already killed two so far this year!

Dead headed the faded tulips and the last of the daffodils and tidied up the borders a bit.

                          Earthed up potatoes.

                          • Decided the Christmas box had outlived its time as it's been in a large tub for six or so years and was beginning to look a bit yellow round the gills, so took the plunge, chopped it up and composted it. There were some seeds sprouting in the tub, so saved the best two and potted them up, plus saved a dozen or so berries.
Lifted the slab the tub was on and planted four ferns that have been in a hanging basket all winter in the space. Planted the hanging basket and two more with fuchsia La Campanella from over-wintered plants and cuttings taken from them.
Sowed runner beans, DFB, and mangetout, and planted out the only courgette that grew.

                            • Potted on chilies and toms. Got given a 4 (pneumatic) wheel trolley - only one tyre doesn't leak - so spent a couple of hours fitting a new inner tube on the worst one and patching and tyre-welding the other two. Planning to use it as the basis for my solar powered mobile water-pumping station. Next weekend it will be used by the kids who turn up for the plot BBQ - always need to find something to keep them entertained. Tried to dismantle a couple of pallets using a steel crowbar and sledgehammer - no joy - I've lost my pallet-breaking mojo it seems
