Planted out runner beans. As usual, refused to discard extras, and so shoe-horned a make-shift support onto the end of the Charlotte bed and planted a couple there, too. Mulched in front of the runners with weed membrane and planted a romanescu courgette through that.
Sowed a couple of trombos under a bottle cloche. You never know...
Planted out a Big Max pumpkin. Curcurbit in the ground count so far is 1 x Rond de Nice; 2 x romanescu; 1 x marrow tiger cross; 2 x Big Max; 1 x Jack of all trades; 1 x Rouge vif D'Etamps. Back home or sown are 4 Tromboncino another marrow which I'll probably rehome and another rond de Nice which I might give away, too.
Apart from sundry flowering thingies, that's it for planting out. Phew.
Weeded the edges of the Charlotte bed and a few other spots, weeded the blueberry pots and around them, had a slug picking up session, which I think was mostly pointless, watered here and there.
We've had enough rain to lay the dust, but it's still dry underneath. At least the water doesn't run off so much when watering though.

As my lettuce has taken badly to the heat, bought some lettuce plug trays from next village's shop and planted them in my high planter. Put some salad mix nasturtium seedlings in with the lettuce.
Planted out bergamot and zinnia.Last edited by elsie-scot; 31-05-2018, 09:00 PM.Elsie

[yesterday evening]
Weeded the parsnips. Which took forever.
Planted out tagetes, and heeled in cosmos, as I've nowhere to plant them at the moment.
Watered, watered, watered.
Weed bashed, concentrating on docks and nettles around the edges. Mowed everything else.

Finally got our little kitchen garden started today. We went for one of those small wall hugger VegTrug things (they are based here in Colchester funnily enough) and some nice grey terracotta pots as a start. I also moved our pot raspberry on to the patio.
One pot has rosemary, purple sage and thyme. Potted using a john innes no. 3 mix with some added perlite, no fertiliser added.
Apple mint in the second pot. Didn't have any edibles for the third pot so planted some of the busy lizzies I had waiting in nursery pots.
The VegTrug is filled with a decent MPC with added John Innes and I also added some perlite and vermiculite to the top layer, plus some Seafeed poultry manure + seaweed pellets. Mostly annual herbs but also some extra salad and a chilli plant in there.
The end result:

I'm going to try that slug trap idea. If it works it will be cheaper than nematodes!
Dug over my "no dig" raised bed to get rid of all the weeds, added two bucketfuls of manure, then, after chucking around some slug pellets, covered the whole lot with a weed suppressant fabric. Cut two holes in the fabric and planted a winter squash, Crown Prince, in each. Then went to the allotment and planted 25 Sweetcorn. Dug up one of my onions because it just didn't look right. It was all soft and pappy inside. Don't know what the rest will be like when I get back in a fortnight.
Some nice cucs forming now I won't be here. Watered chillies and peppers, - now at the flowering stage, watered my cacti and called it a day.
