Read varying information on how many plants to grow per grow bag, some say 3 some say 2. I have a 10ft by 6ft greenhouse and plan to grow a mixture of mainly Plum/Beef tomatoes with 2 cherry, 2 Sweet Pepper and one cucumber. Using the 3/grow bag route I reckon I can accommodate 24 plants. I have a higher level shelf along one side on which I'm planning to grow chillis as well.

    Is this too much?

    Newbie here so be kind!

Are the toms bush or cordon varieties? They have different space requirements.
I've stopped growing in growbags and use flowerbuckets (MFBs), filled with growbag compost. Its easier to space them out and control watering, IMO.
I grow one plant per 2' pane of glass - so, in a 10' GH I'd have 5 plants on each side and 3 across the end.
I try to grow small, early fruiting bush toms in pots in front of the cordons, removing them once the cordons need more room and light.
I grow trailing toms on the high shelf in the GH, again removing them once the toms below need to room.

Thanks VC. They are Cordon variety. I've already invested in the "grow pots" so will try grow bags this year. Looks like I have far too many plants then

One way round it is to stand a grow-bag on end, then fold it in half so you have roughly equal amounts of compost in each end, Cut right through the middle and this leaves you with two plastic "bags " which you can stand upright and plant a tomato in each.

Be aware that the compost in grow-bags often gets extremely compacted and needs breaking up so that the plant roots can penetrate it easily. I usually would do most of this breaking/crumbling before any cutting of the bags to avoid spills.

            So many to choose from!
Can you please tell me, if you were to grow just one medium sized salad tomato, What would it be?

I'd probably go with good old gardeners delight.
I'm sure someone slightly more obsessed with tomato growing will be along shortly with a few more unusual varieties.

You could do worse than having a look at the Buy quality Vegetable Seeds - The Real Seed Catalogue UK. website - they have some test of growing different types, and quite interesting write-ups.

First seeds have gone in today

Will be aiming for around 30 varieties again, and will keep sowing until I've got enough plus a few spares to find homes for locally.

                    • Managed to get all my tomato seedlings pricked out of the pots they were in (altogether, but separated by variety) whilst in the propagator and into their own individual little pots (which they'll stay in until they go into their final pots in the growhouse outside).

Just bought these, outdoor girl for 79p. One for garden one for the lotty to see if it fruits before blight hits. Mainly bought for seed saving but I now have over 80 plants lol.

Bought in a garden/hardware/allsorts shop called Buyology, mainly in wales and the west country but beautiful sturdy plants, much better than the leggy things at the better known GC/DIY outlets.

Any stems left that you can peg in water and grow from them?
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
