March - the first day of spring!
As its -4, blowing a gale and snowing out there, the drifts are about a foot deep and you can't see anything but snow anyway, I decided to be a wimp and do the photos through the windows!
Back garden:
The tunnel on the left was intended to house buckets of potatoes by now, but is currently protecting 4 buckets of calabrese and 1 each of carrots, broad beans and corn salad. There is also a bucket of compost that contained swede until a couple of days ago, keeping dry as I need it for potatoes when the weather relents. I haven't removed last night's snow from the tunnel - it has blown off.
No changes to the contents of the cloches visible through the archway - these are still covering spinach and beetroot. The kale, mooli and spring cabbage on the veg garden are also still there. The growhouse is also unchanged from last month. Round the back of the garage the carrot cage now contains a lone pot of chinese celery and the 3 brokali plants are under nets and plastic covers on the raised beds which have been converted to hotbeds. There is a single bucket of Arran Pilot potatoes on there too - no idea if it will survive this brutal weather. The PSB is taking its chances - at least the fence in that corner protects it somewhat from the easterly wind. The strawberries are covered with snow.
Against the fence at the far end of the veg garden I have planted onions under a plastic cloche. Near the apple tree I have put a piece of thick clear plastic down to protect that bit of soil from the worst of the wet when the snow melts. I have Meteor peas which will be ready to plant there in about a week's time
Front garden:
Snow is not as deep here as a lot of it melted in the sun yesterday and it is protected from the easterly wind by the house.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

My garden looks a state at the moment & I'm a bit worried about my onions in the raised bed, broad beans & peas might be ok,garlics still looks ok in the last photo. Its a mess because I moved that pile of branches to make a no snow area for the bird food (the two middle photos are from a couple of days ago when the snow covered everything) I will tidy up soon & probably buy some onion sets I’ll be surprised if mine have survived,I won’t buy them yet though there’s still a chance they’re ok

April, and everything still looking very wintery. I've had a look back at last year's photos - the wiegela bush, white currant, apple, blueberries, strawberries and clematis all looked noticeably green, the early potatoes had about 4 inches of greenery, the first carrots were a couple of inches tall and the grass looked like it needed cutting...
Potatoes and calabrese under the tunnel
Corn salad and broad beans looking miserable in the buckets, buds only just starting to break on the currant and apple tree and Meteor peas behind the sheet of polycarbonate. The strawberry plants on the fence have no new growth at all yet.
Potatoes and seedlings in the growhouse, carrots under the plastic cloche (yet to germinate), spinach in the covered saladgrow planter (yet to germinate), potatoes under the covers on the raised beds (foliage yet to appear). The tree in the bucket is an apricot which is just starting to show some signs of buds breaking (apricots flower in March). Yes the clematis is still growing up the archway, but there are no leaves yet.
Blueberries in the fruit cage are just starting to break their buds. Strawberries looking miserable, potatoes under the covers, and PSB which is nearly ready to start cutting.
Just about everything under covers including spring cabbage (nearly ready), mooli (pathetically small), spinach (barely growing), beetroot (barely growing) and onions (starting to appear). There are brokali, herbs and kale (out of picture) that are not covered up.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

Mid April in the Garden
I finally got round to mowing the lawn yesterday it looks a bit tidier out there now. There’s overwintered onions & some strawberries planted in the raised bed at the bottom of the garden with peas & broad beans in the adjacent bed. My garlic’s planted in the border in the bottom left of the photo. These pale yellow tulips open up during the day & then close up at night, there used to be just one flower, then last year there was two & this year there’s three,I didn’t plant it I wouldn’t of planted just one bulb in a bed,I don’t know how it got there but they’re lovely aren’t they
