A very sunny 1st July



Tomato plants have grown too big for the tunnel and now have cage supports. The 2 plants in the pots in front are Balconi tomatoes that have finished their first flush of fruit. I'm waiting for a not too hot day to pot them up - that may be some time...



Broad beans in bucket 12 have produced a small 2nd crop which is about ready to eat. White currant has loads of fruit, but its leaves are not happy since I pruned it. Apple tree has all of its fruit on the lower half of the tree as usual. I think some drastic winter pruning is required. Meteor peas have nearly finished. The apricot tree (far right) looks happy in its pot. The cornflowers in the flower garden are a disappointment - they are Polka Dot Mix, which I grew last year and were a lovely mix of blue, white, pink and purple. This time (new seed) every single flower is blue.



Growhouse now contains tomatoes (Shirley), French beans and beetroot seedlings. Tomato Garden Pearl in the 2 buckets next to potato Lady Christl mostly out of picture. Carrots and calabrese under the big net, other brassica seedlings under the strawberries. Potatoes on the right hand raised bed are starting to die down - these are Arran Pilot planted in February. The Charlotte next to them are nowhere near ready. Clematis on the arch is not happy despite being watered every day.



Lots more potatoes (Charlotte and Desiree) trying to block the path. Framberries (near) and strawberries on the shelving. More strawberries, carrots and blueberries in the fruit cage.



Hurst Greenshaft peas doing really well. On the far left are the Sungold tomatoes. More tomatoes of various varieties beyond the peas, with onions near the fence. The cucumbers are doing well in the duogrow planter and the runner beans are climbing the arch. The overwintered begonias on the path are growing but there is no sign of flowers yet.

The garden still looks pretty full despite growing a lot of things at the allotment!

Everything a bit wild and overgrown at the moment, but I love it. Raised beds in the foreground are doing better than expected with the zinnias and dahlias, with leeks and nasturtiums in the tall bed behind. Lovely growth, but needing watering every day at the moment. To the left of the pic are the sarpo potatoes - starting to topple now, but at one point nearly up to my shoulder.



Oooh, is that a marrow I see nestling in there? (It was, I harvested it this morning)



From the other end of the plot, from L to R, beds 1, 2 and 3. Bed one with half the charlottes left to harvest (they have been WONDERFUL), with sweetcorn farther up sharing some space with a couple of sunflowers and a pumpkin, and then the marrow and a round courgette with lettuce bolting beyond it.

Bed 2 has a bumper crop of onions I'm really pleased with this year, with a row of leeks right at the front, and some parsnips. One side of the pea and bean arch sits into this bed, too.

Bed 3 has broad beans and peas at this end, both harvesting now, with the pea and bean arch beyond - french beans, sweet peas, trombos, runners, cosmos and tagetes under, and a couple of courgettes hanging around under the runners.

The Brassica tunnel is about the one place I'm not watering at the moment. The Trafalgar sprouts and the PSB seem to be coming along nicely anyway. I was wondering why it kept sagging when there hasn't been much wind, until I caught Not Our Kitten casually walking along the top... *eyeroll*



The aforementioned lovely onions. Since we're just past longest day, I'm quite pleased. Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong!

The netted beds are producing some lovely baby carrots, although the rocket I sowed has come up like bonsai rocket... perfect in shape, but micro in size. Very weird.



Last year, I barely had any sweet peas at all. This year I'm cutting massive bunches every two days. Just lovely!
