Potatoes in MFB's

If I planted first early seed potatoes in MFB's what type of yield might I expect? Would the serving be enough for two or is it a bucket per person?

I know there are lots of variables but has anybody tried apart from BM's experiment?

I plant 2 seed pots per mfbucket - each bucket feeds roughly 2 people, but it will very much depend on how long you leave then before harvesting. Obviously the longer they're left the bigger the spuds get
If you tip them out too early you'll get next to nothing - I've done that before in my eagerness to eat some

Just turned out a flower bucket of spuds planted one to a bucket at the end of July. They were not really seed potatoes but some that had sprouted. The compost was soil and compost 50/50 and the result was quite enough for two people. Not bad for freebies!

Have to agree with Thelma as I have the same problem...impatience, same every year.

I plant about 12 to 16 MFBs every year the standard size with one seed the larger ones with two Lady C.

These will go into the GH mid February, the trouble is at first growing conditions are well under par so they will take longer than normal to mature. But I have to try and see and nearly always fail with the first bucket, after that the yield will increase with every harvest.

A good MFB planted with 1 seed tuber of good quality will produce approx 15 potatoes (pigeon egg to hens egg size) after about 70/80 days growth..
Depends on 1.Variety. 2. Planting depth to suit that Variety.3. The quality/fertility of your compost.
4.Planting date does NOT always affect yield. 5.Plant when soil temp' is right for the location your growing in (ie GH or outside).

An additional Tip is.....To avoid disappointment by early harvest/poor results and trashing the whole plant......go down the Shopping bag route...it works.
