Bramble's Rant about the cost of Crimson Crush seeds prompted this! http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ml#post1573303

Crimson Crush seeds are sold by

    Suttons £3.99 for 10 seeds

    whilst at sister company

    Dobies £3.49 for 15 seeds.

How do they justify the difference?

Maths isn't my strong point .
It's all very unfair and you have to do lots of shopping around to get a fair deal let alone a good deal.

Just a stab in the dark, but probably because Suttons usually give out voucher codes/ discounts to entice people and the oik in price is to allow for it. Same as T+M (do discounts)/ Van Meuwen (offer the lower price)

Another anomaly - Sutton's P&P is £1.99, Dobies is 95p - Both prices for seed only orders.

            d. How much do I have to pay for delivery?
The delivery charge per order (irrespective of the number of items ordered) is £4.95 however if you are only ordering seeds, onion sets, garlic, shallots & mushrooms this reduces to just £0.95 per order. For more details please refer to our Terms & Conditions.

Just done it that way NG, and through their "Knowledge base" and, as you say, its £1.99.

                What are your delivery charges?

Orders to Mainland UK: If you are ordering packet seed, garlic, onion sets or shallots the delivery charge is just £1.99 for the entire order. If you are ordering anything else, the carriage charge is £4.99. You only pay one or the other and this charge is per order, irrespective of how many items you order.

                  and another..................

                  Carriage Charge
Orders of Packet Seeds, Garlic, Onion Sets, Shallots and Mushrooms (except windowsill kits) only incur a charge of £1.99 per order.

Seems like they've increased the P&P but not updated some of their webpages!

As far as I am aware, Dobies are owned by Suttons. They are one and the same company.

If you live outside the UK you are absolutely crippled by delivery charges, plus a lot of the time they won't deliver to Ireland.
We also don't have the same choice of seed suppliers with just T and M, Suttons or Unwins.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I have the same problems living in Slovakia, Bramble. But you do have some smaller Irish suppliers with interesting ranges. I've bought some nice varieties from Brown Envelope Seeds, Seedaholic and Irish Seed Savers.

Yeah, Ebay shops usually charge much less in P&P (don't know why). I use Premier Seeds Direct who have a great range at low prices and will send outside the UK.

Think of it like VW and Skoda. They both have the same engine, but a different wrapper and controls.

Suttons heavily advertised - premium brand .... Who are Dobies?

                              suspect same seeds.

On that subject, all the seed companies have differing P&P for seed only, so can mean spreadsheet to work out better deal. Or getting more like a walk to local store
