Growing some early toms 2018

You can often get this if the seed is old, gently keep wetting the seed pod with a bit of spit on your fingers, a few times a day for a couple of days.....it's usually enough for the leaves to push through.
I'm impatient and often try to pick it off sometimes leaving a headless stalk!

^^ Well, that was about to be my question: when do you expect to start picking your toms?

I'd join in but I live in a house with virtually no windows in order to keep the sun out in summer.

Oki dokey,
so to keep my Rosellas company i sowed 5 of each , Tumbling tom red , Balcony red , cherry falls and rambling red stripe.today.

Well all of mine are up, although not every seed, just the five days in the placy bag on top of the lizard cage.
Think ill stick to sowing in soil from now on tho, bit too fiddly on tissue paper.

Update

Sown on the 20th.

Totally shocked at Big Daddy germination. Self saved seeds from a couple of years ago that got blue mould as I didn't dry them out properly. Put them into a bag and they've been lurking at the bottom of the seed tin since.

Chucked them all in "just to see" and it looks like most if not all have come up.

I've potted mine on today.
A couple failed to germinate (Yellow Pygmy and Cherry Falls) and some lost their heads or snapped (handling error). Do you think 23 baby toms will be enough or should I sow some more?
Curiously, all the trailing/tumbling seedlings were leggy and sprawling whilst the windowsill ones stayed neat and compact. They were all sown at the same time, same compost and were treated the same throughout. Never noticed the difference before!

Sounds as if some of them are surviving in spite of you, not because of you

The modules slid against each other and trapped some of the trailing stems, never to recover.
