My crystal apple are producing lots of cucumbers but the leaves have what looks life leaf mould on them. Is it okay to just remove the affected leaves or should I spray with something?

    They are planted outdoors.

Not really sure what this is, mine are the same and I reckon it is down to the rubbish summer we are having. I have left mine alone and they seem to be coping okay. I am sure the more experienced grapes will be along shortly to put us right.
    Happy Gardening,

      Hi Borage,

Crystal apple cucumber are heirloom type which is pretty sensitive to cucumber disease. Usually it is a mildew or a false mildew ( I don't know the english translation, just translate it literally ). You could slow down the infections by removing the infected leaves but it does not cure ( it will only get worser when it is continuously humid ). Why don't you try some spray ( I can't recommend any as I don't use chemical ).
I removed my infected ones and luckily those at the balcony with canopy get away from any fungal problem which I am collecting their seed.
It will be great if you could post their pictures for ID

      Cheers,

          Hi Borage,

I found the correct translations, what I mean with false mildew ( in dutch ) is actually downy mildew ( in english ). I saw a lot of chemichal stuff against those fungal, they are mainly from Bayern trade mark and another 2 more which I forgot. But I think they should be widely available in the UK. I found a website about the cucumber disease ID :
          http://hgic.clemson.edu/factsheets/HGIC2206.htm
          Hope it help,

My Crystal Lemon plant has had terrible mildew since it was small. Against all odds, it is now producing quite a few fruit. No leaves left, mind...

I grow them every year and they do seem to suffer a bit from this. Doesn't look pretty but also doesn't seem to stop them producing so I tend to ignore it.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'm growing Marketmore outside and the lower leaves have mildew, I'm getting nice good cucumbers though. I've just let them be.
(These plants survived nasty scorches following an allotment fire and they're still fruiting)

                  Hi Kirsty B,

I presume you mean marketmore 76 ( they are some other like marketmore 86, ect ), they are very populer slicing cucumber, I grow them too. But really, it is famous not just because of highly productive but also tolerant ( some even say that they are resistant ) to lots of diseases such as : powdery mildew, downy mildew, ect.
So they can take a lot more abuse from those diseases. As for outdoor Lemon cucumber, they don't stand that much chance in comparison.

                  Cheers,

                      Hi there Momol

I have no idea what one I'm growing (76/86?). There was no number on the pack and I got them in a swap as I had indoor cucs and needed to swap them for outdoor ones. It says Marketmore on the pack and thats good enough for me.
