  • Are Parsneeps a suitable replacement

Burns Night so the Wife acquired a Tesco Haggis for me.
In the oven in a tray of water for 1h 20m
As the oven was on I popped some
    1) Spuds
    2) Parsneeps from my garden, I didn't have any Turneeps

A small glass of the good stuff to accompany them.

Most tasty meal I have had for a long while.

Are Parsneeps a permitted replacement for turneeps?

Also as I popped the bottle of the good stuff back in the cabinet I inquired if the Wife would like a swig from the bottle?

The reply was something to the effect of uncouth yobo!

A neep is a neep as far as I am concerned!

to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

Don't suppose it really matters Jimmy, especially as you enjoyed it

A proper Scottish neep isn't really any kind of a neep at all. It's a swede.

You're going into dangerous territory there Zelenina.

I guess you're another one who's guilty of mis-naming this poor yellow root veg, Kev. But at least you don't call it a rutabaga. That's just rude.

When i used to see this rutabaga oriental vegetable mentioned in the ingredients list on chutney I was in awe of it..............until I found out it was swede!

It won't be the first time a parsnip will have been used to pose as a different food. During the war they mixed them lots of sugar and some banana essence as a banana substitute. My mother said her parents gave her some once. She was not impressed.

A parsnip is a parsnip and perfectly good as it is - no need to try disguising it as something else.
