I've kinda done this today, without having even read this thread! I've built a wall around my veg patch, and now in the process of building a pond right next to it, and I know I won't have the time to sort the veg patch any time soon, so when I was out there potting up toms and cues, I saw beetroot, carrot and kohl rabi seeds, and in a moment of madness, I just threw them on to the veg patch. I did water them in, but didn't cover them. I have loads of these types of seeds, so I've not lost anything if nothing comes of it.
I feel a bit mad for having done it now haha

I have possibly made a basic error with this mix and chuck idea, because I had radish, turnips, and kohl rabi in the mix. Now I have no idea how to tell them apart. Either I hope they are radishes (this would be exciting as they would be my very first) and pull them up radish-sized, or expect them to be turnips or kohl rabi and leave them till they are golf ball sized.
Either undersized KR and neeps, or giant radishes

Is there a way to tell them apart by their leaves?

Radish leaves tend to be a bit prickly/stingy... I can't remember turnip leaves being like that. Have a rummage? Are they red radishes? They're fairly visible if so?

Red radishes, but reddish kohl rabi too...

I've tried tasting the leaves, but they all taste brassica-ry as you'd expect. some of them are more prickly, so they'll be the radishes then. I know KR are not prickly, but not sure about turnips.

If you furtle around the stems you should be able to see if there are radishes - especially if you've sown red ones!

I had a pink radish sized turnip in my salad this evening now my dilemma is whether the turnip I left to grow is actually a very large radish. Comparing the colours, I think it may be, the turnip was slightly more of a purply pink, and radishes are a bit more on the reddish side I think. It's just so unexpected to actually have a radish grow...
