  • Whoops (how to clean mouldy growhouse)

I forgot I had temporarily stored some pumpkins (which were awful eating, so no biggie) in the growhouse in the backyard. So they've happily rotted, deflated, and now the growhouse is full of nasty stains and mould.

I can take the wooden shelves out, but do I just scrub with soapy washer and dry, or do I need to disinfect in some way?

I use ***** fluid, I'm sure somewhere it was said that you shouldn't, however after 50 odd years I guess if it was going to get me it would have done so by now lol.

Well I'm just a "Sucker" for cleanliness! ................

But what I do, and it's still a little damp n muggy for me, I boil a large pan of water, bang it in a clean builders bucket and drop some "Citrox" init, get a soft sweeping brush, scrub it all down and then blast it all off with the hosepipe then let it drip dry!

      Works wonders!

Soda crystals on hot water are one of the cheapest for cleaning off wood. Be careful not to get it on your hands though, and don't let it anywhere near your metal tools.

Thanks everyone. In good old damp Cumbria, mould is a bit of a bugbear, so I don't want to start the season with a bad growing environment.

Spray with vinegar or hydrogen peroxide, both kill mould.
