It depends on how small a plant you want to try? I have halms Gelbe topftomate - a yellow cherry tomato, it's a dwarf plant, gets no bigger than approx 8inch tall..it has a reasonable crop for a small Tom but you need a few plants on the go to get a regular harvest. I'm happy to post a few seeds if you fancy a try?

I grow balconi red and balconi yellow - the red ones have more flavour. I find that sown in Feb they fruit in May and June, then if put outside they will produce a 2nd crop of tomatoes from August through to the first frost (or blight).A life is like a garden. So for a window sill what type would be best
I would think a corden as you can train it upwards.
A bush one would want to bush out all over the sill and be unmanageable.
Or am I wrong?

Jimmy I have certain restrictions in,what I can grow, and there is no chance of me being allowed to grow cordon tomatoes, I had some in the conservatory several years ago and I still get moans because a wee bit water blistered the floorit may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

If you grow a cordon you will have to stop it off at 1 or 2 trusses of fruit, so you really won't get many tomatoes. Regular bush tomato varieties are too wide for the average windowsill.
What you need are the patio or mini varieties. Balconi grows to a max of 2ft high, usually rather less, and is compact enough to sit on my standard spare bedroom windowsill in a 3 litre pot.

Sorry the photo is slightly out of focus - it was the best one I could find that shows the size of the plants.Last edited by Penellype; 30-01-2018, 04:29 PM.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy
