  • Does onion/leek seed keep?

I sowed two trays of leeks (around 24 seeds in each, two different varieties), and got a grand total of two seedlings. The seed was bought last year - does leek seed viability diminish over time like carots/parsnips? I'll probably just sow the rest of the packets now in the hope of getting 10% germination...

Many tables say 1 year fr onions, 2 for leeks. I've certainly got longer viability out of them

Just sowed some onions dated 2011, nothing showed. Can't imagine why!

Recently saw a youtube video of a chap doing a germination test on some old onion seeds.
Seemed to get about 50% or so.

I have sowed the rest of my onion seeds from last year, I reckon I must be close to 90 percent germination success.
