Sounds ideal, Wheelie - and a good depth of soil in the middle for your roots.
I know nothing about irrigation systems, sorry, but I'm sure, whatever you do, you'll grow some great veg in it.

Yes, I’m a bit nervous I will screw things up, but I’m pretty sure most people make mistakes. As you said I’m going to do the root veg in the middle deepest point.

You won't screw things up, Wheelie Just choose your seeds carefully, things that are suitable for growing in containers, nothing too big. Don't overcrowd the planter trying to grow too many plants - and ask on here if you're unsure. there's always someone around to help.

Have to got use of an outside tap?

Don't forget to ask the chaps how much soil/compost they use to fill your bed.

Hi Pots. There is a tap but there’s always a big yellow industrial plastic hose attached to it for use by other residents in our complex.

Be worth finding out who and if they have the right to. Can you get them to agree to a splitter on it, and then you have a line too?

I'd generally say that as far as practicable, the higher and bigger you can get the water reservoir, the more head of pressure you will get.

I will ask the warden Mike. But I do know the woman who always seems to be using it is a very unpopular resident, who makes a lot of peoples lives a misery, so I don’t hold out a lot of hope

If you were to put a 'Y' junction on the tap itself that would give you a permanent water supply with out interfering with anyone else. It would then just be a matter of plugging it into a 'dripper' system which you can purchase.

The Y connectors have isolation valves on them.
