^Neither are mine... still in the packet. Will be sowing direct in a couple of weeks, when I can work out where. Ideally would grow around the chicken coop, but it has to be moved for building works, so that's out of the question.
I got 2 up with little seed leaves, another not far of,NO 4 seems a no goer,at least i will have 3 for my experiment,
Soop if you grow up the chicken coop, they will eat any that pocke through the inside, are you sure you want to eat them

I was hoping the trombas would be whoppers and too big to grow through onto the chicken side of the coop. The real threat are the dogs - they love courgettes and squash, so I'm sure trombas would be on their foraged food menu too.
remember, they do start out very tiny, before they even get big enough to be pollinated hehehe, had this a few years ago with a climbing squash,i trained it around what was then, the try chicken wire pen for the sweet corn, the squasg was both sides, and hidden in the foliage,as more often than not, they will fruit further up the stem than some squash,

how about making a frame, like 2 uprights with a 2 or 3 strong canes between, sat 1 foot above one another, out of the dogs reach, then as the plant grows, train it onto another level, even the side bits can be tied up,or cut off, this does work, but leave a nice loop on the long stem so as not to snap it,if for some reason it ends up a bit cruched,as long as you wrap some gafer tape round it,it will hold in the moisture,as well as splint it,suggest using something soft like tights to tie up instead of string,as for the bottom part of the plant, could you put some checken wire around to help keep the dogs at bay,or just remove the lower fruits, there is always a way lass
