They may yet surprise you 1Bee. I sowed 6 Hunter BNS seeds on 11th April and had given up on them because all the other squash varieties sown up to a week later had germinated. Then suddenly, yesterday, one finally popped its little head up and shouted "Hello!"
The problem with rounded personalities is they don't tesselate.

      • I sowed another batch today. Theone that made last sowing flopped over, the others which have kind of germinated didn't look good - the seed leaves looked like they were rotting. Think it's been too cold for too long. Hopefully these will catch up.

So are mine, but planted some other stuff out this morning, so now there's room in the greenhouse to get a few sown, plus all the other squash I'm planning to grow

                    • I am going to plant a couple in an area 3ft by3ft and evidently as they grow upwards I am hopping there will be space for either a couple of courgettes or a pumpkin the soil will be rich enough to grow them but will the area be enough for them to grow?
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                      • I grew two quite close together a couple of years ago Rary, and the results were astonishing in terms of the amount I could harvest. Very productive, but hungry - I did feed with well rotted chicken manure and they took off!

                        • Mine are up! Along with other courgettes and squashes as well. Came up on Saturday, crikey they grow quickly - glad I didn't start earlier as I don't know where I'd have put them...
                          Another happy Nutter...

                            • I am thinking of putting one out into the garden and covering it with fleece to protect it from the cold

When do you normally have your last frost?
